Literally it means „glacier lagoon“. There is a branch from Vatnajökull glacier coming into the lagoon and that where the ice bergs come from. The lagoon is connected to the sea and the ice bergs leave the lagoon right there. Sometimes they get stuck at a beach and melt down or get back into the sea.

When you have a good eye, you can see seals in the lagoon. And we have! Unfortunately only a head. But still, better than nothing, right?!

Needless to say it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to.
